As Microsoft has ended support for Windows XP in 2014 - http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/lifecycle - many customers will be updating their legacy ScanStation PCs to Windows 7. Customers must verify that their ScanStation PC meets the minimum hardware requirements to support Windows 7 operating system and compatible ShareScan software. See Operating System options for ScanStation

Kofax will continue to provide maintenance and support for customers with valid support contracts, including ShareScan v4.x customers, in the same manner that we do today. However, if troubleshooting reveals the issue to be related to the Windows XP operating system, Kofax may not be able to provide a fix and may recommend upgrading the operating system to Windows 7 and the ShareScan software to 5.x.

Windows 7 Software Support:

ShareScan for ScanStations version 5.0, 5.1 and 5.2 are supported with Windows 7 32 bit Operating System.

Customers using ShareScan version 4.3.5 or earlier will be required to upgrade their existing software version to the current shipping software version when changing to a Windows 7 Operating system. Software Upgrades can be requested for registered end user customers with a current Maintenance and Support Agreement.

Windows 7 Hardware Support:

The below table shows the ScanStation Shipping models, the shipping touchscreen models and the upgrade requirements in order to support a current shipping software version with the Windows 7 operating system. New ScanStation and New PC purchases will be fulfilled with HP 6305 model.

HP 6305: No hardware upgrades are required. The HP 6305 model ships with Windows 7 pre-installed. Customers with XP operating system on an existing HP 6305 can use restore media provided with the original shipment to upgrade to the Windows 7 Operating system.

HP 6005:No hardware upgrades are required. The HP 6005 model shipped with Windows XP pre-installed along with Windows 7 restore media. Customers with XP operating system on an existing HP 6005 can use restore media provided with the original shipment to upgrade to the Windows 7 Operating system. There may be instances when an upgrade to Windows 7 results in slower performance than previously experienced. Increasing RAM to 4GB may address this issue and can be purchased from the ShareScan spare parts list.

RP5700: A customer can choose to upgrade the ScanStation PC component only or purchase a new ScanStation.

DC7800/7900: These PC models shipped with either an ICSN 10' touchscreen or a TouchStone 10' touchscreen. Customers with ICSN 10' touchscreens can choose to upgrade only the ScanStation PC component or purchase a new ScanStation. Customers with the TouchStone 10' touchscreen will need to purchase a new ScanStation. For more information on determining the touchscreen in use, please see the Touchscreen compatibility section below.

DC7700 and older: Customers with these models must purchase a new ScanStation.

TouchScreen Compatibility:

Please note: Some monitors of older ScanStations will not be compatible with an upgraded PC. Confirm that the touchscreen monitor in use with the ScanStation is supported by the current HP 6305 PC. The table above provides guidance on which hardware was included.

To confirm the monitor is supported make sure the touchscreen monitor is either an ELO 15' display or is an ICSN monitor. The ICSN and Touchstone monitors look the same. To verify you have an ICSN monitor and you can upgrade the PC refer to the serial number on the back of the monitor. It must contain either an 8162-XXXXX or an 8203-XXXXX serial number scheme and note the eCopy address as One Oracle Drive in Nashua, NH.This information is found on the asset tag located on the back of the monitor as shown in here. The information can be viewed without the need to remove the monitor assembly from the ScanStand. If the monitor is a 10' monitor and its serial number does match these schemes it is a Touchstone monitor, and your PC and monitor will need to be replaced. Kofax recommends replacing your ScanStation with a new unit for the latest PC, monitor and stand.

Hardware Upgrade Best Practices:

Licensing:

  • For current 4.x customers: Upgrade the license to the current shipping software version. This will require a current Maintenance and Support Agreement.
  • For current 5.x customers: Open a support ticket to request a key reset your existing ShareScan license before attempting to activate the license against the new ScanStation PC hardware

Ensure Access to Components:

  • Make sure you have access to the desired ShareScan installation software. ShareScan software can be downloaded from the Kofax Downloads site at https://delivery.kofax.com/. Make sure you have access to the desired TWAIN drivers so that the component can be installed on the new ShareScan Manager PC. If you do not have access to the TWAIN drivers please contact your reseller or MFP support center.
  • The existing touch screen drivers can be used with the HP 6305 PC.

Backups:

  • Export the desired ShareScan configuration profiles using the latest ShareScan 5.x profile migration tool included with the installer so that you can easily install and import your current ShareScan configuration to the new 6305 PC.
  • For existing 5.x implementations: If the license database is running locally on the older PC, you must migrate the database to the new 6305 PC. Please follow the instructions in your ShareScan Installation Guide or contact Kofax for additional details and assistance.
  • Follow the upgrade instructions noted in the ShareScan v5.x Installation Guide available on the Kofax Downloads site.

Maintenance and Support:

The new 6305 PC will have the standard 90 day hardware warranty.

Upgrading the hardware does not have any bearing on the existing M&S term of the ShareScan software license.

2. You need to order the HP 6305 PC from the Spare Parts section of the eCopy ShareScan price book

3. Make sure you note the ShareScan licenses that need to be moved from one PC to the other
