A few operating systems ago, there was an excellent Terminal command that would let you disable inline attachments in Mail. What are inline attachments? Well, as you may have noticed, when you insert an image or a single-page PDF, the item plops itself right in the body of your email.
I'm a new user of Outlook Mac 2016. I added two mail accounts (work and personal) and I want to keep them visually separate in Outlook. So I unchecked the 'Group similar folders, such as Inboxes, from different accounts'. But now my personal email account (that I added first to Outlook) is on top and my work account is on the bottom. Apr 07, 2018 Mail App One of the most popular built-in application on Mac, Apple Mail allows you to access all your emails in one platform may it be Gmail, Yahoo Mail, Outlook, AOL Mail. Jan 25, 2008 Outlook 2016 for Mac. Mail.app and iCal are far better, but they sadly have too many issues, missing features and generally dumb bugs when you try to use them with Exchange. Apple has been halfassing those programs for quite some time now. May 20, 2019 In Microsoft Outlook 2016 for Mac running on Mac OS X Yosemite (10.10) or later versions, you cannot set Outlook as the default application. In Outlook Preferences, under General, you enable the Make Outlook the default application for e-mail, calendar, and contacts option. I'm a new user of Outlook Mac 2016. None of my software: photo apps, Microsoft apps, Adobe, Mail, no scanner for the printer-simply nothing. Just feel sick. Managed to download Firefox for a puzzle game. So I have a $2700 beautiful computer but trapped into using my 8 year old iMac and getting mail on my phone.
That’s kind of cool, but it’s frustrating and weird for a lot of people. And by “a lot of people,” I mean me. I like being able to drag my attachments around as icons, and while I know you can change a single attachment by right-clicking on it…
…that’s just not convenient to do all of the time. Luckily, the command that disables this feature is working again in El Capitan, so let’s rejoice and check it out! To do so, open the Terminal program (it’s within Applications > Utilities) and copy and paste the following text into its window:
Press Return, and then instead of your attachments looking like they do in my first screenshot, they’ll all be icons, like this:
I just find things so much easier to manage that way!
If you decide you don’t like this setup, you can reverse the command by changing the last word:
And that’s all there is to it.
One more thing—be aware that if you change this on your own machine, it won’t necessarily affect how your recipients see things. For example, I put images and a PDF into an email as shown in the screenshot below:
And this is how it showed up on the other end:
So this command is solely for your own email-attachment happiness. That’s enough for me, though!
Certain actions that you perform on your Mac will cause default apps to open. For example, clicking a document may open Pages. But what if you want Microsoft Word to open instead? You can also set your default web browser and email reader.
